Mrs. John Dettling Succumbs After Visit To Son's Home.
FUNERAL ON WEDNESDAY.
Mrs. John Dettling, 63, of 437 E. Buchtel Ave., descendant of one Summit County's pioneer families, died late Sunday night, while en route from Cleveland to Akron in an automobile with several members of her family. She had been visiting her son, Frederick, president of the Rubber Clearing House of Cleveland, and attended a birthday dinner in his honor early in the evening. She was taken to a doctor's office in Northfield where she was pronounced dead. Death was due to heart disease and high blood pressure. Mrs. Dettling had been suffering from these ailments for two years. Mrs. Dettling was born in Botzum, July 29, 1865 and lived in Summit County all of her life. She was the daughter of Conrad and Louisa Botzum. She celebrated the 40th anniversary of her marriage to John Dettling last September. Mrs. Dettling was a member of St. Bernard's church and the Christian Mother's society of that church. She leaves her husband, John, and the following children: Frederick of Cleveland, Mrs. Leo Odenweller of Delphos, and Clarence, John Jr., Mrs. Frank V. Dunderman, Mrs. Eva Gifford, Theodore, Elizabeth, Genevieve and Vivian, all of Akron. She also leaves five brothers and three sisters. The brothers, Charles, Lewis, Harry, Joseph and Albert, are associated as the Dettling Bros. Co. of Akron. The three sisters are Miss Amelia and Miss Caroline Botzum and Mrs. A. Hilkert, all of Akron. Twelve grandchildren are numbered among her descendants. Death of Mrs. Dettling was the first in her family, subsequent to that of her parents. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. when mass of requiem will be sung in St. Bernard's church, with Rt. Rev. Msgr. F.A. Schreiber, celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery.
