Revolutionary War soldier; "Lemuel, son of Sion and Hannah (Pettingill) Wentworth, born in Canton, Mass., 28 May 1754. He was in the Revolutionary army, in Capt. Hind's compnay, Col. Reed's reginment. The public records show that he was paid by government for a gun which he lost at Bunker Hill. He marched from Winter Hill to New York, thence to Albany, Ticonderoga, Montreal, and subsequently back to Mount Independence, and afterwards to Trenton, where he was in the battle in which the Hessians were captured. He married in Sharon, Mass., 1782, Susanna Whittemore, born in Sharon 9 June 1764. She died in Hope, Me., 2 April 1832; He died at Hope, 15 Jan 1844, aged 90. They had [eight] children."
