Note
Giles de Badlesmere, 2nd Baron Badlesmere (18 October 1314 – 7 June 1338) was an English nobleman, the son and heir of Bartholomew de Badlesmere, 1st Baron Badlesmere by Margaret de Clare of Inchinquin and Youghal.
[edit] Family inheritanceGiles' father had been hanged, drawn and quartered in April 1322 for having participated in the Earl of Lancaster's rebellion against King Edward II of England. Bartholomew had joined the rebels in retaliation for the arrest of his wife, Margaret and their children, all of whom were sent to the Tower of London when Margaret refused to admit Queen consort Isabella to Leeds Castle where Bartholomew held the office of governor. His title and estates were attainted, therefore Giles did not succeed to the barony. The latter was seven years old at the time he was imprisoned and lost his father.
In November 1328, he obtained a reversal of his father's attainder and succeeded by writ as the 2nd Baron Badlesmere. However, when he died less than ten years later in June 1338, the barony of Badlesmere became abeyant as his marriage to Elizabeth Montagu had not produced children. His coheirs were his four sisters:
Margery de Badlesmere, married William de Ros, 3rd Baron de Ros, then Thomas de Arundel
Maud de Badlesmere, married John de Vere, 7th Earl of Oxford
Elizabeth de Badlesmere, married Sir Edmund Mortimer, then William de Bohun, 1st Earl of Northampton
Margaret de Badlesmere, married John Tiptoft, 2nd Baron Tibetot.

Note
Richard, son of Ughtred, was called "Sir Richard" in the Plea Rolls. It appears from two Inquisitions preserved among the Escheats [37 Henry III no. 16, and 45 Henry III, No. 37], that Theobald Walter wrongfully ejected Richard son of Ughtred from his estate of Broughton. The said Richard died before 1212, when his son and heir, Alan de Singleton, was returned in the Survey made that years as holding the serjeantry of the wapentake of Blackburnshire in fee, and half a carucate of land in Singleton by serjeanty, as warden or master serjeant of the wapentake of Amounderness; one carucate in Broughton; two oxgangs (sic) in Billsborough, when he held jointly with John de Billsborough; and one carucate in Steyna. This Alan had two brothers, Richard de Thornton [Stainall, nos. 57,58] and Roger (de Cottam), who gave land in Cottam to Cockersand Abbey. This Allan de Singleton died before 16 Nov 1244, this being the date of the writ directed to the sheriff to make and inquiry respecting the lands, which Alan held in chief of the King at the time of his death. William de Singleton was found to be his son and heir.
